Gala dinner invitations at a planetarium usually promise the same three things: a table, a toast and an hour under a projected sky. Then the house lights go down, and somewhere on the left a phone screen flashes white. A chair scrapes. Someone in trainers walks the aisle in the dark, looking for table nine.

None of it is hard to avoid. What goes wrong is small and predictable: a dress code read at the door, an hour changed in a group chat an hour before, a glass raised before the hosts get to theirs. Here's what to skip, and where a digital invitation quietly does the telling.

Planetarium gala dinner invitations: read the dress code before you leave

A planetarium is dark for an hour or more, and the room stays cool the whole time. Formal, in that setting, means a dark suit or a long dress. Anything that catches the projection light competes with the sky above you, and the sky wins. Go light on perfume, too: the room is closed and the air doesn't move much. A jacket or a wrap you can keep on through the show earns its place.

  • Check the dress code in the current invitation, not in a screenshot from three weeks ago.
  • Choose a dark suit or a long dress over anything that sparkles under a projector.
  • Keep the perfume light. Closed room, shared tables.
  • Take a light coat or a wrap: planetarium rooms stay cool.

The dome goes dark on time, and so does your phone

The projection starts at a fixed hour, not when the last car parks. Arriving 15 minutes early means you walk in while the lights are still up, find your seat and say hello without climbing over knees in the dark. If you're going to be late, tell your host before the show starts, not in the middle of it.

Inside, the phone stays out of the light. Silence it before you go in: one notification on a bright screen breaks the room faster than a dropped fork. Take photos before or after the projection, with the flash off inside the dome. And if the hour moves, don't rebuild the plan in the group chat. With a digital invitation, the same link shows the updated time, place and dress code, and nobody has to dig out the new version. If you're the host, put the exact hour and the dress code in the invitation itself, where they can't scroll away.

The etiquette in a planetarium isn't about cutlery. It's about not being the light, the noise or the surprise.

At the table, the order is simple: the hosts raise their glasses first and you follow. Don't tap a fork against a glass to call for quiet; in a room that dark, your voice or a nod from the host carries better. If you don't drink, ask for sparkling water and stay in the toast anyway. An empty glass needs no explanation. When the invitation arrives, reply from the invitation itself: confirmations land in one ordered list instead of scattered messages, and what you check there — the hour, the place, the dress code — is the version your host last touched. That's the argument for sending a link instead of a picture. One place, updated once, read by everyone. A digital invitation costs €29.99, paid once.
