Gala dinner invitation template: dress code at a glance
Write the dress code once, on the invitation itself: level, colour, shoes. The template says it in three lines and collects the replies.

It is 19:40 on a Saturday and someone is standing in the hallway in jeans, scrolling up through three weeks of group chat looking for the line that explained what "gala dinner" actually means. It went out as a message five days ago. Half the table never saw it. The other half read the word "elegant" and made a decision.
That is a wording problem, not a guest problem. The dress code belongs on the invitation itself, on the page guests already open for the date, the address and the reply button.
Gala dinner invitation template: the dress code goes on the page
The classic mistake is putting "gala dinner" on the cover and sending the clothing details by message five days before. Whoever missed the message turns up in jeans, and you spend the evening managing it in the group chat instead of getting ready. On this kind of invitation there is a text field for the dress code, and it holds the three things people actually ask about: the level of formality, the colour, and a note on shoes. "Black tie with a black bow tie; comfortable heels" answers more than the word "elegant" ever will. If the code changes from cocktail to formal, you edit the scene and the link stays the same — nobody reprints, nobody forwards anything. Say it twice: one short line on the cover next to the date and time, and the full detail in the dinner scene.
- One formality label, not two: black tie, cocktail or formal.
- Two or three colours if you are asking for a palette — "dark greens, black, burgundy" — plus what to avoid, and only if it really matters.
- A shoe note for the ground you booked: gravel garden, lawn, wooden floor or carpet.
- A cut-off line: "if you are unsure about what to wear, message us before the 10th".
Black tie, colours, shoes: how to word the dress code line
Level first. Pick one label and stop: black tie, formal, cocktail or smart casual. Mixing two in the same sentence is what produces the last-minute text. Then colour: if you want a palette, name two or three shades and say plainly what you are hoping to avoid. A "wear whatever you like" after a palette request only adds confusion. Then shoes and ground, because a gravel garden and a floor with a wooden stage lead to different footwear. One line about the terrain saves the question at 19:40.

If the answer to "what do I wear?" is not on the invitation, it becomes a message — and messages get lost.
Editing the invitation is not resending it
Move the time from 21:00 to 21:30 and change the dress code from cocktail to formal, and everyone who opens the link sees the updated version, on the same link as before. The cover photo you are not happy with gets swapped; it frames itself and nothing else in the invitation moves. There are never two versions in circulation: if somebody lost the link, you send the same one again and everyone reads the same thing.

In test mode you can edit the cover without paying; buying unlocks every scene. It is 29,99 EUR, one payment, no subscription. The RSVP form sits inside the same invitation with the questions you set, so confirmations arrive in one ordered list instead of scattered across chats. The editor runs in the browser (Joy Studio), nothing to install, available in 7 languages with the invitation content configurable per language, and guests open the link on their phone without downloading an app. Straight with you: it is digital, it does not print or post paper. If someone wants a copy on paper, the sensible combination is the link for everyone and a few printed copies for whoever will keep them. Scenes are linked — real examples include Umbral de cal, Memoria del patio and Cena larga — and each one takes your own words and photos.
Before you send the link, read the dress code as if it were the first line someone sees when they open the invitation: level, colour, shoes. When the template already says all of it and collects the replies, you stop being the administrator of a group chat and go back to being the host.
