Ten years from now, someone opens a metal tin in a garden and reads a card in your handwriting, dated the night you got married. That only happens if they turn up with the card on the day. Wedding time capsule invitations are what makes them bring it: one line in the welcome scene, next to the time and the address, plus one question on the RSVP form.

Skip both and you end up with a jar holding four envelopes and a queue of people at the door asking what it is for. Fixing that takes ten minutes in the editor.

Wedding time capsule invitations: say it in the welcome scene

Guests read the invitation in order: who, when, where, what to wear. Put the capsule line in that same block. Next to the time and the address, nobody discovers it on the day.

  • One line in the welcome scene, next to the time and the address: 'Bring a sealed envelope with something you want to tell us ten years from now.'
  • The same line in a group message a week before, with the exact time the box closes.
  • A question on the RSVP form — 'Are you bringing something for the capsule?' — so you know how many spare envelopes and blank cards to buy.
  • A size limit, stated plainly: if it does not fit in an A5 envelope, it stays out.

What to write: ink, a date, nothing that needs a charger

Ask for three things and no more. A handwritten letter, signed and dated: who wrote it, where they were that night, what they wish you on the opening date. A printed photo with two lines on the back, because a 6x4 print survives a decade in a tin and a screenshot on a phone often does not. And a flat object with no value: the cinema ticket from that week, a pressed flower, the shopping list from the rehearsal dinner.

Nothing that rots, nothing anyone would miss. If it will not survive ten years in a sealed box, it is the wrong object.

A time capsule is a promise with a date on it. Write the date on the lid and the invitation does the rest.

Seal it at the toast, and hand it to someone else

Put the tin on the entrance table next to the guest book, with a two-line card: what it is and what time it closes. Name one person to seal it during the toast — a brother, a witness, a cousin. Without a name attached, the box stays open until the bar.

The tin does not go home with you. It goes with someone who does not live at your address, who writes the opening date into their calendar that same week: the tenth anniversary, dinner in the same garden, the same people you messaged.

A digital invitation is a web page with its own link, not a PDF. The link does not expire, and it stays the same if the toast time moves or the box is opened somewhere else. Add a scene — call it 'The time capsule box' — with a photo of the tin and the instructions, and publish it. Nothing gets reprinted or resent, and guests see the current version. If someone wants paper, combine: the link for everyone, a few printed copies for the box, or for the grandparents who will keep one.

Choose the box this week, write the opening date on the lid in marker, and put the capsule line where guests will read it. In Send The Joy you build that page with your names, the toast time and the capsule instructions for €29.99, one payment, and you edit any detail later on the same link.
