Wedding invitations for guests who know no one

Put names, times and a map on the first screen, so nobody turns up at your wedding not knowing a soul. Here's what to write, scene by scene.

Pablo is coming to your wedding on his own. He knows you well. He has met your partner twice: once at a birthday, once in a lift. Everyone else on the list is a blank to him. He will open the invitation on the train at 11:40 and try to work out who he is going to talk to for the next eight hours.

That is the invitation's job. Not to look nice on a phone, but to give him a face, a time and an address before he walks in. A wedding invitation for guests who know no one does work the printed card never had to do.

Say who is who in a wedding invitation for guests who know no one

The opening screen holds the fields you fill in yourself: the label, the two names, the date and the place. If it reads 'Marta and Nil, 14 June, Mas de la Creu' with one line underneath — 'we are getting married in my grandparents' courtyard' — a guest who knows only one of you knows where he is going and who he is there for. A character counter keeps that line short, so the cover still reads at a glance.

  • Both names, the date, and one line saying where and how the day will go.
  • One line per group in the dinner scene: 'Pablo's flatmates', 'Marta's choir'.
  • Exact times for arrival, ceremony, dinner and the last dance.
  • The address written the way your map app writes it, with a map that opens on a phone.

Times in numbers, and a map that matches the road

Write the day with times, not adjectives: 12:30 arrival in the garden, 13:00 ceremony, 14:30 dinner. Someone who has never been to the venue knows whether they are running late without messaging anyone. 'We eat late' tells a stranger nothing.

Spell the address exactly as it appears in the map app. If the map says 'Mas de la Creu' and the invitation says 'the house in the village', somebody takes the wrong road. Dress code in plain words — 'comfortable shoes, the ground is gravel' — saves the moment when heels sink into the lawn. Add a line per group in the dinner scene and upload one photo per scene, up to six, so a stranger has faces to look for. 'Friends from the choir' beats 'special guests' every time.

A guest who knows which group to walk towards, what time to arrive and whose face is on the screen does not need looking after all night.

The confirmation that never gets lost in the group chat

Replies land inside the invitation as an ordered list, so you are not scrolling a WhatsApp thread with sixty messages to find out who is coming. You set the questions on the form: keep one practical and one that gives people something to say at dinner — 'which song can you not sit down to?' works on a table of strangers. Guests install nothing. They open the link in a phone browser and confirm in two taps. There is no paper: it is a web page, and the site and the invitation content can be set in seven languages, which helps when your guests do not read the language you do. If a few people want something to keep, print a handful of copies and send the link to everyone else. Open any design in test mode, edit the cover without paying and see it with your names before you decide. The complete invitation is €29.99, one payment, and it goes live with a button. When the link lands, the guest who knew nobody has a face, a time and an address. The first toast is his.
