Printing, envelopes, stamps, reprints and the evenings spent chasing replies. Here's what goes into a wedding invitation budget in Portugal, and which line a digital invitation removes.

You've booked the venue, you've chosen the menu, and you're at the kitchen table with a spreadsheet and 90 names on it. The cards look affordable. Then you add the postage column, and a wedding invitation budget in Portugal stops being a small line.

Posting each invitation adds a fixed cost that repeats for every guest on the list. Multiply it by the number of envelopes and the card price stops being the number that matters. That's the part that's easy to miss.

Wedding invitation budget in Portugal: the envelope does the damage

The price on a printed invitation usually covers the card. It doesn't cover the envelope, the stamp, writing the address, or the afternoon spent stuffing 80 of them. Each one is a separate line. And if an address is wrong or missing, the envelope comes back and you pay for paper and postage twice.

  • Envelopes, stamps and addresses written by hand, one per guest
  • Extra copies for the people who keep them in a drawer
  • A reprint every time the time or the venue changes
  • The evenings spent chasing replies over WhatsApp

The lines that go in the spreadsheet

Written down properly, an invitation is not one item. Design or template, printing, envelopes, stamps, extra copies, calligraphy if there is any. Add a line for last-minute changes, because reprinting 80 cards after the ceremony moves to 6pm is not free.

And price the confirmations. If you're collecting them one by one on WhatsApp, you're paying in evenings, and the count is never quite up to date when you need it.

The card is rarely the expensive part. The envelope, the stamp and the reprint are, and they multiply by the number of guests.

Changing the time shouldn't cost another print run

Move the ceremony an hour later, change the venue, swap the dress code. On paper that means reprinting and resending, and you pay for both. A digital invitation works differently: you edit the text, publish, and the link stays the same. Guests open it on their phone and see the updated version, with no app to install.

Compare the total, not the card

Don't hold the price of one card next to a digital invitation. Put the card, the envelope, the stamp, the extra copies and the hours of management next to it instead. Run it for 50, 100 and 150 guests. The postage line grows with every name you add. A digital invitation doesn't have that line at all.

If you want paper in your hands, keep a few printed copies for your grandparents or your witnesses and send the link to everyone else. Try a digital invitation free, edit the cover without paying, and publish it for €29.99 when it looks right. Confirmations arrive inside the same invitation, in one list.
