Vertical Garden Wedding Invitations: Let the Shade Lead

The shade on a living wall moves all afternoon. Here is how to write the hour, the door and the RSVP in your invitation, so nobody turns up at the wrong light.

At 6 pm, the green wall on the south side of the patio is already in shade. Your guests are still outside, looking for a wooden door between two buildings. Two of them arrived early and are standing in full sun, fanning themselves with the map you sent. Nobody has called you yet.

That gap between what you can see from inside and what your guests can see from the street is the whole job of a vertical garden wedding invitation. Not more decoration. Two extra clauses: what the light is doing, and how to find the door.

Vertical garden wedding invitations: say what the light is doing

A living wall facing east takes the morning sun and loses it by late afternoon, so the hour on its own tells your guests very little. Write '7 pm, when the green wall is already in shadow' instead of just '7 pm', and people dress for the evening that is really happening. Midday ceremony? Warn them about direct sun and suggest hats or fans. Eight in the evening? Say the plants get lit by string lights once it's dark.

  • Hour plus light: '7 pm, with the wall in shadow.' Never the hour on its own.
  • Photos with a deadline: 'Group photo at 7:30 pm, while the wall is still golden.'
  • One line that fixes the time in place: 'The light changes. The hour doesn't.'
  • Seating worth mentioning: 'The chairs on the left are in shade from 5 pm.'

Describe the place the way you'd describe it to a friend

A courtyard in Gràcia and a rooftop in Poblenou need different words, and a street name is not enough. Write 'in through the wooden door, next to the fern wall', or 'up the metal stairs, last door on the right'. Two lines of directions save you twenty phone calls.

Then give one landmark that can be seen from the street: the green wall facing south, the stone pond, the fig tree by the gate. That beats 'follow the signs', because on the day there won't be any signs. If the garden has two ways in, say which one is for the ceremony and which is for dinner. Someone arriving ten minutes late will thank you for not walking the whole garden twice.

Labels, names and the line: nothing improvised

'Marta and Luis's wedding' goes on the cover, but each scene can carry its own wording: 'Patio memory' for the ceremony, 'Long table' for dinner. Use labels a guest understands without knowing your garden. If the wall of ferns is busy, keep the line short — 'See you in the shade' does more work than three long sentences competing with the plants.

RSVP without chasing anyone

Set the questions inside the invitation: coming or not, how many of you, and one open note. Answers land in a single ordered list, not eleven WhatsApp threads, and your guests install nothing — the link opens in any browser. The link also stays the same when you edit, so if the ceremony moves to 7:30 pm or the map needs a fix, everyone who already replied sees the new version. Open a design, write the hour with its light, the door with its landmark, and one line that sounds like you. The draft is free to try, and publishing is 29,99 EUR, once.
