Lace Wedding Anniversary Invitations: The 13-Year Rule
Thirteen years means lace, and that changes the invitation wording, the dress code and how guests reply. Here's what to write, and how a link replaces the envelope.

The table is booked for eight, the lace cuff you borrowed from your mother is on the dresser, and your phone buzzes with the question you were hoping to avoid: what should we wear? Lace wedding anniversary invitations come with one rule that most anniversary invitations do not have, and it comes from the number itself.
Thirteen years is the lace anniversary in the traditional list. That one word decides what you write, what you ask guests to wear and how they reply. Here is the version that holds up on a real Saturday night, with a table booked at eight and guests arriving at nine.
Lace wedding anniversary invitations: lace is worn, not printed
Lace belongs to the couple, not to the room. One piece is the whole tradition: a cuff, a neckline, a handkerchief, a bracelet that belonged to your grandmother. If she wears it, the tradition is already done. Repeat the lace on napkins, centerpieces and the cake and the dinner starts to look like a christening.
- One detail on the outfit carries the tradition. Not the tablecloth, not the cake.
- Vow renewal: white or ivory lace. Restaurant dinner at ten at night: ecru or the color of the dress holds up better.
- Print the label as 'Ana and Luis, 13 years' with the year you married beside it. Not 'our wedding' — your guests were at that one.
- If you are renewing vows, write 'vow renewal' and the ceremony time. If it is dinner only, write 'dinner' and the aperitif time. Mixing the two puts people at the door at the wrong hour.
Wording and dress code for a 13-year anniversary invitation
A soft joke is allowed on the card — same knot, better wine — but nothing about divorce and nothing about what the dinner cost. The names and the year do the work. The label says 'Ana and Luis, 13 years' with the year you married beside it. 'Our wedding' only confuses the people who were at the first one.
For the dress code, ask once and leave an exit: 'a touch of lace if you like, not required — ecru or off-white works just as well.' Nobody should buy clothes for an anniversary dinner, and offering an alternative stops the messages asking what to wear. Put the dress code above the menu. Clothes are decided at home; the menu is decided by whoever is paying.

One strip of lace at the cuff does more for the tradition than a room dressed in it.
The envelope no longer decides who is invited
Etiquette does not require paper. It requires the invitation to arrive in time and make sense. A link opened on your aunt's phone does the same job as a card, and guests do not install anything to answer. Move the dinner from eight to nine and the same link shows the new time; nobody turns up at the old restaurant. For the people who keep things, print two or three copies for the grandparents who will look at them on the shelf. Then pick a design, try it free in the editor and publish the link. It is 29,99 EUR, one payment, and the confirmations arrive inside the invitation.
