Harry Potter birthday invitations: the map opens the party

Wands, potions and wax seals, plus a Marauder's Map cover that still reads on a phone: what goes on the invitation, how to share it, and how the RSVP works.

Your kid turns eleven this autumn and the party will look like Hogwarts whether you plan it or not. You search for Harry Potter birthday invitations, find a Marauder's Map drawing, drop the date on top of it, and on a phone screen the letters disappear behind the castle towers. Then the replies land in three separate chats and one parent still asks what time it starts.

More decoration does not fix that. What fixes it is deciding what the invitation has to say, in what order, and putting it somewhere the answers come back to you.

The cover of a Harry Potter birthday invitation is the first spell

Treat the cover as one clear panel, not a poster. With a Marauder's Map, keep the line short: Saturday, 6pm, Grandma's house fits on the parchment without crossing the corridors. One sharp photo of the birthday kid holding a wand reads better than six snapshots from last year's party. You can mark which photo is the cover and swap any of them afterwards, up to six in total, and they frame themselves inside the layout.

  • Marauder's Map cover with the date placed where the map would mark a passage.
  • A photo of the envelope with a wax seal, used as a decorative scene between the cover and the RSVP.
  • The film soundtrack, playing low, the moment the invitation opens.
  • An RSVP question in your own words: 'Which house are you coming as?'

Pick the house before the typeface

Red and gold for Gryffindor, green and silver for Slytherin. Two siblings sharing the party means two houses and one photo each, not one compromise that suits neither of them. Most eight-year-olds will tell you exactly which common room they belong to, so ask before you open the editor.

If the birthday kid cannot choose, leave the question for the RSVP and read the answers as one ordered list. The invitation can be written in Spanish, Catalan, English, French, Italian, Portuguese or German, and the text inside can be set per language. Useful when there are cousins abroad on the list.

The theme should carry the information, not hide it.

The party moves from Saturday to Sunday: change the time in the editor and the same link shows the new one. Nobody forwards anything, nobody reprints an envelope. Add a photo of the cake three days before and guests see it when they open their link again. The same goes for the venue, the map and the dress code.

Time, address and dress code go in their own fields

Each piece gets its own box: label, names, date, phrase, place. The address stops getting trimmed when the message runs long, and the RSVP questions, whether that is how many of you are coming or robe or broom, are answered from a phone without installing an app. Confirmations arrive inside the invitation, in one ordered list you check the evening before.

Try the cover free with your own names and date. If the map reads well on a phone, unlock every scene for 29.99 EUR, one payment and no subscription. And if a grandparent wants paper, print that link on a nice sheet for them; everyone else gets the same map in a message.
