Friday Civil Wedding Invitations: The Timing Guide

A civil wedding on a Friday runs on two clocks. What to write on the invitation, what to check with the registry office first, and what to do when the time changes.

A civil wedding on a Friday runs on two clocks. What to write on the invitation, what to check with the registry office first, and what to do when the time changes.

Six twenty on a Friday evening. Two of your guests are still at their desks, one is on a train, and your mother is texting to ask whether she should change before the registry office. The invitation said 19:00 and nothing else. So everyone is guessing what that means: the ceremony, the drinks, or the meal? Friday civil wedding invitations fail on this one detail more often than on any other.

A civil wedding on a Friday runs on two clocks: the registry office clock and the restaurant clock. Put both on the invitation and most of those messages never get written.

Friday civil wedding invitations need two clocks, not one

In Spain a civil ceremony at the registry office or the town hall often happens in the morning. If they give you 12:00, plan the day as a lunch, not a Saturday-night dinner. If the ceremony falls at 18:00, count on guests arriving straight from work: the aperitif starts later, and dinner shouldn't begin before 21:30.

  • Two separate times, written out: '12:30, ceremony at the registry office' and '15:00, lunch in the courtyard'.
  • Never one time on its own. A guest who reads '19:00' will assume whatever suits them.
  • The exact name and address of the venue in both scenes, plus a map link for whoever leaves the office at 18:30.
  • If dinner can't start before 21:30, say that on the invitation instead of explaining it on the phone later.

The paperwork sets the date before the design does

Before you fix a day, confirm with your registry office or notary how long the marriage file takes and which documents they ask for. A date that isn't confirmed can't be sent to anyone.

Once the date and time are firm, open the editor and fill it in field by field: heading, names, date, your own line and the venue. You can add up to six of your own photos, and they sit inside the frame on their own.

A Friday dress code is practical information

People come from the office and won't go home to change. Tell them what to wear — 'office formal', or 'a dress and shoes that survive cobblestones' — and where exactly they're going. Set the RSVP questions you actually need answered: dinner or drinks only, and who's coming with them. The answers arrive in one list inside the invitation, so you're not chasing confirmations by message.

Guests don't install anything: the invitation opens in the browser on their phone. The content can be set in Spanish, Catalan, English, French, Italian, Portuguese or German, which helps when part of the guest list is coming from abroad.

You're not sending a card with a time on it. You're sending a page that can still be right at six in the evening on the day.

The usual case: the restaurant confirms 21:30 instead of 21:00. You change the time in the editor and anyone who opens the link sees the new one — nothing gets re-sent. Same if the venue, the map or the dress code changes because that Friday turns hotter than expected. It's one web page with one link, so nobody keeps an old time saved on their phone. Test it free in edit mode and unlock every scene when you buy: 29.99 EUR per invitation, one payment, no subscription.
