Digital vs Paper Baby Shower Invitations: The Real Cost

Twenty envelopes, two wrong addresses, one card left in a handbag. Here's what a digital baby shower invitation actually changes — and when paper still wins.

Twenty envelopes, two wrong addresses, one card left in a handbag. Here's what a digital baby shower invitation actually changes — and when paper still wins.

Twenty envelopes go out on a Tuesday. Two come back with the wrong address. One stays at the bottom of a handbag until a week after the shower. And three people ask in the group chat what time it starts, because the card said 12:00 and you moved it to 13:00 the day before.

None of that is the fun part. Digital baby shower invitations and paper ones do the same job — tell people where to be and when — but they ask different things of you. One asks for stamps and handwriting. The other asks you to paste a link. Here's what each one really costs.

Digital vs paper baby shower invitations: what actually arrives

Paper needs a printer, stamps and one handwritten address per guest. A link gets pasted once into the family group and lands with everyone at the same moment. If the shower moves from 12:00 to 13:00, paper means another print run and another round of addresses. With a link you open the editor, change the time field, and the same link shows the new version.

  • Paper costs you the card, the stamp and the address you write twice because the first one smudged.
  • A link goes out once and everyone opens it: no app to install, just a browser on a phone, tablet or laptop.
  • Move the hour, the place or the map and nothing has to be resent — guests see the version you edited.
  • The real paper bill is rarely the card itself. It's the missing addresses, the postage that went up and the copy left forgotten in a bag.

An open envelope doesn't tell you who's coming

An opened envelope tells you nothing about whether someone will turn up. A confirmation list inside the invitation tells you who's in, in order, in the same place as the date. You set the questions before you send: how many of you are coming, how many children, who's staying for cake.

With paper, 'are you coming?' gets chased through WhatsApp for days and rebuilt from memory in a notebook. With a link, the answer is written down where you can count it. Send it, then change the dress code or the meeting point: the link stays the same and nobody gets a second envelope.

You're not choosing between pretty and practical. You're choosing where the answers end up.

The keepsake doesn't live in a drawer

A card in a drawer gets looked at once. A page you can reopen gets looked at again: up to six of your own photos, music, and the scenes the design includes — Umbral de cal, Memoria del patio and others — filled with your own words. You mark the cover photo and swap any of them later. The invitation text can also be set in Spanish, English, Catalan, French, Italian, Portuguese or German, which matters when half the guest list reads in another language.

When paper still wins

If the shower is small and you want something people can hold, print three copies of the cover for the grandparents and send the link to everyone else. That's the split plenty of families land on. The link does what an envelope can't: reach the cousin in another country, collect the answers in one list, and stay correct when the plan changes. Try your cover for free, put your own date and names on it, and publish the day it looks right.
