Digital invitation: WhatsApp or email for your wedding

Digital invitation: One link, two channels: WhatsApp for friends, email for the boss. How to send your digital invitation so people actually open it — and confirm inside the page

It's ten at night and you're retyping the same message for the fourth time: the date, the venue, the name of the bar for afterwards. Someone in the group will scroll past it. This is the point where a digital invitation does the work for you — a page with its own link that you can build and send today from the collection. The only decision left is how it travels: a digital wedding invitation that lands by WhatsApp in one chat and by email in another.

Both channels work. Both open on a phone. What changes is who reads it, when they read it, and whether they come back to it the week the ceremony time moves.

WhatsApp opens, email introduces

A message with a link gets read standing up on the platform and forwarded to the group in two taps. The same link by email opens on a laptop, unhurried, and stays in the inbox to be found again in May. So the channel is less about technology and more about the guest in front of you. The mistake I see most often with digital invitations: sending only a screenshot of the save-the-date by WhatsApp, with no link that opens the invitation itself.

  • Friends and witnesses: WhatsApp with the link and one short line. No loose screenshots.
  • Work, in-laws, guests of obligation: an email with the names and the date in the subject — 'Ana and Luis, 12 June'.
  • Older relatives: a half-minute phone call, then the link by WhatsApp.
  • Confirmations: inside the invitation, in one ordered list, not spread across chat replies.

A digital invitation from Send The Joy is the event's own web page, not a PDF and not a picture. Paste the same link into a chat or into an email and both open the same page. Nobody installs anything: your guest taps, it loads in their browser and they answer from there, with no downloads and no password. If some guests need the content in another language, it can be set up that way.

Inside, the invitation is a run of linked scenes — Threshold of limewash, Patio memory, Arch of promises, Long table, Last dance — each with its own text and photos instead of one flat block of details. Up to six of your own photos slot into the frames by themselves: you mark one as the cover and you can replace any of them after publishing. Music and the RSVP questions are set in the browser editor, with a live preview and a character counter so a long line never spills out of the design.

The channel gets the link opened. The link is what people keep.

WhatsApp vs email: timing beats the channel

Send the date and the place first, so nobody books another weekend. Send the link with the confirmation form once the ceremony time and the map are settled. If the time, the map, the dress code or the line on the cover changes, you edit the scene and the same link shows the new version — nothing to resend, nothing to reprint. Replies arrive in an ordered list inside the invitation, so you aren't hunting through three chats for a yes. And if your grandmother wants card in hand, the sensible mix is a link for everyone plus a few printed copies for whoever will keep them. One digital invitation costs €29.99, paid once with no subscription, and you can try it free: in test mode you edit the cover without paying, and buying unlocks all the scenes. Pick the channel each guest actually opens, and let the link carry the rest.
