Digital invitation: how to name wedding sponsors

A digital invitation for your wedding lets you name every sponsor with their role next to their name — and fix a change later without reprinting anything

Three days before the wedding, the group chat asks who carries the rings. You know the answer: your brother. The problem is the card — it says “Sponsors: Pilar and Andrés” and nothing else, so four people are quietly wondering what they actually agreed to. Wedding sponsors, witnesses and ring bearers each have a different job that day, and the invitation is where that gets settled. With a digital invitation you pick a design from the catalogue, write every sponsor's role next to their name, and send the link today: no printer, no envelopes, no second version when something changes.

It takes about ten minutes and three decisions: who, in what role, and in what order. Everything else is typing.

What a digital invitation should say about your wedding sponsors

Before you type a name, decide what that person is. In Spain, wedding sponsors sign the register. A ring bearer carries the rings. A bouquet godmother has her own line. The arras sponsors look after the coins. Witnesses sign as witnesses. They are not interchangeable, and guests notice when an invitation folds them all into one category. Three words beside a name — ring bearer, witness, arras sponsor — save you a week of messages asking who does what.

  • Each sponsor's role written next to their name: ring bearer, bouquet godmother, witness, arras sponsor.
  • The title you agreed with them: Don and Doña with surnames, or first name only.
  • The order of the blocks checked: bride's parents, groom's parents, then sponsors.
  • One phone call to each sponsor before they open the link.

The order of the names is already a decision

The usual sequence runs bride's parents, groom's parents, sponsors. If your parents are not on the invitation — because they are not there, or not part of the day — the sponsors move up and open the block. That is not an oversight. It is a decision, and it reads like one.

Couples share a line: “Luis and Carmen Soto Mena”. Two people who are not a couple get their own: “Doña Pilar Ruiz and Don Andrés Vega”. Ask them how they want to appear. Some want the first name only. Others take the “Doña” seriously and will notice the day it goes missing.

A sponsor's name is not a slot to fill. It is a decision you make with them, and it should read at a glance.

Call first, send the link second. Say it plainly: “Juan, we'd love you to be an arras sponsor on 14 June. Here's the invitation.” You share it by link, QR code or message, and the RSVP questions are yours to set, so every sponsor confirms inside the same invitation instead of texting you back. If a sponsor lives abroad or finds phones fiddly, open it together on a video call. It is the two-minute version of handing someone the envelope.

Change a sponsor's name without reprinting a single card

In a digital invitation every name is a text field. You type it in the browser editor, the character counter warns you before the line overflows, and the preview updates as you write. If a sponsor drops out in March, or the “Doña” turns out to be wrong, you edit it and the link stays the same: guests see the updated version, nobody gets a second message, and no envelope is rewritten. One invitation costs 29,99 EUR, paid once, with no subscription, and your guests open it in the phone browser they already have. Start with a free draft, name your sponsors properly, and publish when the line reads exactly as you want.
