Digital invitation: keep your wedding invite out of spam

A digital invitation only works when the guest opens it. Here are the subject line, link and timing decisions that keep a wedding invitation out of the spam folder

You send the link on a Tuesday morning. On Thursday your aunt asks when the invitation is coming. It did arrive — in her promotions tab, under a discount code for shoes. A digital invitation only does its job when someone opens it, so a wedding invitation that stays out of the spam folder comes down to three decisions you take before you hit send: the subject line, the shape of the link, and who receives it. You can put yours together today from the catalogue, test it free and publish it when the wording sounds like you.

No marketing team required. Two names in a subject line, a link that behaves like a page, and one message per household do more than any clever wording.

The subject line decides if your digital invitation is opened

Filters read patterns, not intentions. A message shaped like a newsletter gets treated as one. Write the subject line the way you'd write it to a friend: names, date, nothing else. 'Marta and Luis · 14 June' gets opened. 'Invitation!!!' gets deleted, because it looks like everything else that was pushed at that person last week.

  • Names and date in the subject line, no exclamation marks, no capitals shouting for attention.
  • No words that filters read as advertising: free, urgent, click here. Plain text with the full link travels better.
  • Send from your own phone or your own email account, with the guest's name in the first line.
  • Keep the link whole and visible. A shortened link with no context around it is the quickest route to the spam folder.

Paper freezes the moment it's printed. A digital invitation is a page with its own address: it opens in the browser with one tap, nothing to install, and it doesn't weigh anything. If the ceremony moves from noon to five, you change the time and the link stays the same. Nobody has to search ninety emails for the version that was correct.

Whoever bookmarks it or pins it in a chat still has the cover with your names, the date, the map and the dress code in the same place three weeks later. Up to six photos, the music and the RSVP form sit behind that one address. For the people who will pin it to the fridge, print a few small cards with the QR code yourself — the link never changes, so the paper doesn't go out of date.

Send in two rounds, never to one group of eighty

An individual message, or a small family group with one line of context — 'We're getting married on the 14th, everything is here' — keeps the link where people can find it. In a group of eighty it's buried within three hours. If someone says it never arrived, resend the same link to that person only, with their name at the top. Forwarding the whole chain makes the message look like a bulk mailing.

A wedding invitation that doesn't go to spam isn't a trick of wording. It's a plain subject line, a full link and one message per person.

How to make a wedding invitation that doesn't end up in spam

The last piece is the answer. Confirmations land inside the same invitation, in a list you can read at a glance, so you're not chasing replies through WhatsApp. Set the RSVP questions before you send, so the form asks what you actually need to know, and if the dress code or the map changes in June, you edit it and everyone who opens the link sees the current version. Pick a design, try it free in the editor and publish it when it sounds like the two of you.
