It's late and you've opened four wedding links in a row. Three look the same: an envelope, a photo, a line of script, a date. The fourth you actually finish. That's the problem with most digital wedding invitations — the technology works, the design doesn't. A Digital invitation from the catalogue can be built and sent today: you pick a design, type your names, share the link.

What follows is what separates a design from a template with your date dropped into it. Seven designs, looked at the way a guest looks at them: on a phone, in a hurry, half-distracted.

The best digital wedding invitations are decided by the typeface

Type fails first, so test it first. Put your actual names into the preview: Muñoz, Íñigo, Zoë, Chloé. If the accents drop or the ñ becomes a plain n, that design won't survive a wedding. Then count the typefaces. Two that contrast well read fine on a 6-inch screen; four turn your names into a puzzle. Last, look at the text sitting over the cover photo in daylight. Pale grey on a bright beach disappears, and that cover is where your guest decides whether to keep scrolling.

  • Type with accents, tildes and umlauts tested on your real names — Muñoz, Íñigo, Zoë — not on 'Name & Name'.
  • Two typefaces that contrast, not four that compete for the same small screen.
  • Your own photo on the cover, and the option to swap that photo later without touching the layout.
  • Cover text you can read outdoors, not pale grey on a sunlit photo.

The RSVP that doesn't make you chase anyone

Do the 30-second test. Open the invitation on your own phone and confirm as a guest, timer running. If it takes you longer than half a minute, your guests will take twice as long, and half of them will 'do it later'. Then check where the answers land. They should arrive inside the invitation, in one ordered list — not scattered across screenshots you have to rebuild the week before.

Set your questions before you send, not after. Swapping 'are you coming?' for 'how many of you?' takes a minute in the editor. Doing it once forty people have already replied is the kind of job nobody wants on a Tuesday night.

Video and music: the first three seconds

Open the link with mobile data and the WiFi off, the way your cousin will. If the background video stalls, the invitation gets closed. Music needs a mute button too: people open these links at work or on the train. And count the scenes before you pay. This is a run of linked scenes — a threshold, a courtyard, an arch, a long table, a last dance — each with its own words and photos. Five short scenes carry a wedding better than one screen with everything piled onto it.

A digital wedding invitation isn't a file you send once. It's a link you keep updated.

What a Digital invitation for a wedding should include for €29.99

So how much does a digital invitation cost here? €29.99, per invitation rather than per guest, paid once. Then check what happens after you send it. You can change the time, the venue, the map, the dress code or the line under your names, and the link stays the same — nobody ends up with an old version, nobody has to be told twice. If you have family abroad, the content can be set in another language: the site runs in seven. And if someone wants paper, send the link to everyone and print a handful of copies for the people who'll frame one. Pick a design, put your real names in the preview for free, and decide with the invitation open in front of you.
