You're at the kitchen table with a stick of burgundy wax, a brass stamp and a list of 80 addresses. Somebody asks the obvious question — how much does a digital wedding invitation with a wax seal cost, anyway? — and it's a fair one, because the wax itself is the cheapest part of the whole operation. A Digital invitation from the catalogue can be built and sent today, so you can put both numbers side by side before you melt the first stick.

The seal doesn't cost much. What costs is everything around it: the engraving, the pressing, the postage and the reprint when one detail moves. Here's where that money goes, and where it stops when the invitation becomes a link.

How much does a digital wedding invitation with a wax seal cost?

The wax gets charged in three places, and none of them is the envelope. First the materials: the stick of wax and the stamp, engraved with your monogram if you want your initials pressed into every seal. Then the labour, because pressing 80 envelopes is an evening at the table, one at a time, and that evening belongs to someone. Then the post, since a sealed envelope is thick and heavy and gets priced one by one.

  • The stamp: a brass seal with your monogram has to be engraved and delivered before the first envelope can be closed.
  • The pressing: one envelope at a time, by hand, and that hour has a price whether you do it yourself or pay someone else.
  • The postage: sealed envelopes are thicker and heavier, so they get weighed and priced per unit instead of per batch.
  • The reprint: change the wording after the wax is pressed and you buy new envelopes, new wax and a second set of stamps.

One change of time and the wax seal starts again

Move dinner half an hour three weeks out and the envelope is already shut. You either break the seal to get back inside, or you print and press a new set. Either way the correction has to reach every address on the list, with a postage bill and a deadline attached to it.

A wax seal doesn't take a text message. Whatever you printed is what stays in the drawer, so a wrong map or a dress code you changed your mind about becomes the version some guests keep.

Digital invitations with a wax seal: what to ask before you order

If you're collecting quotes for paper and wax, ask for two separate numbers: price per unit and price for postage or handling. A 'from' price with shipping added later can double the invoice. Ask how many text corrections are included after you approve the design, whether the engraved stamp stays at the workshop or comes home with you, and whether the supplier gives you a link as well as paper.

The wax seal is not the expensive part. Paying for the same envelope twice is.

Digital invitation vs paper: where the budget actually goes

At Send The Joy a Digital invitation costs 29,99 EUR, paid once, with no subscription. What you buy is a web page for your event, not a PDF: you share a link or a QR code, guests open it in the browser without installing anything, and confirmations land in one ordered list inside the invitation itself. Change the time, the place or the sentence at the bottom after sending and the link stays the same, so nobody gets a second envelope. Edit the cover free in Joy Studio first, then unlock every scene when you're happy with it.
