Digital invitation mistakes at a Halloween country house

A digital invitation holds the check-in time, the bedding list and the kitchen curfew in one link you can edit later — nobody has to resend anything

It is four in the afternoon on a Saturday in October and three cars are already parked outside a country house with the shutters still closed. The keys arrive at five. Nobody told them, because that hour went out in a voice note on Tuesday and nobody scrolled back that far. A digital invitation you build and send today from the catalogue keeps that time on the cover, next to the address and the date, where people actually look.

The invitation is a small website of its own, not a PDF and not a picture of a card. That matters more in a house with beds than in a bar: guests open it on the sofa, in the car, and on the way back for a forgotten sleeping bag. These are the mistakes that cost the most on a Halloween weekend with an overnight stay, in the order they usually happen.

The arrival time is not the doorbell time

Check-in and kick-off are two different hours, and guests will use whichever one they heard last. If the owner hands over the keys at 17:00 and dinner is at 20:30, both numbers go on the invitation, on the cover, with the date and the address. One line each. Not in an audio message that scrolls away by Thursday.

  • Keys from 17:00, written in the same block as the address and the map link.
  • Dinner at 20:30, plus a line saying early arrivals are welcome: 'come whenever, we'll be in the garden'.
  • Sunday, out by 12:00, because someone will still be buttering toast at one and the owner will ring the bell.
  • A phone number for late arrivals, so an eleven o'clock knock doesn't wake the whole house.

What to bring, and when the kitchen closes

The rental contract says linen and towels are not included. Nobody reads the contract. Put the list where people look: sheets or a sleeping bag, one towel and one extra blanket each. Add a torch for the path to the porch and shoes that don't slide, because by ten the garden will be wet and the pumpkins are lit. And hang a cape, a hat or a mask by the front door for whoever doesn't fancy dressing up.

Kitchen and bins are the other two classics. 'Kitchen until 23:30' stops someone starting a tortilla at one in the morning. 'Glass in its own box, bags on the porch, big bin by the wall' means the owner doesn't have to explain it twice on Sunday. And 'music inside from 23:00' says more than 'please respect the neighbours', which says nothing at all.

What goes wrong on a country weekend is always small and written down nowhere: an hour, a bin, a blanket.

How to create a digital invitation for a Halloween country house stay

Pick a design from the collection and open it in the browser. In trial mode you edit the cover without paying anything, so you see how the house name sits above the date before you commit. Then fill the fields one by one — arrival, address, map, what to bring, kitchen curfew — add up to six of your own photos and set the RSVP questions yourself: 'Are you staying the night?', 'Will you be there before eight?'. The answers land in one ordered list instead of forty messages, and guests install nothing. It costs 29,99 EUR once, no subscription. If the owner moves check-in to 17:30, you change it and the link stays the same: nobody resends anything and nobody turns up an hour early with a cool box.
