Digital Invitation: Gender Reveal Without the Baby's Name

Digital Invitation for a gender reveal without the baby's name: the fields where it slips out, and how to fix them on the same link you already sent

You build the invitation on a Sunday afternoon. The cover looks right: balloons, the date, one line that reads 'Emma is on her way'. You send the link. Two minutes later your sister replies with a screenshot and a laughing emoji. Everyone in the family group chat has already opened it, and the surprise lasted one tap. A digital invitation for a gender reveal can be put together and sent from the collection the same day, but the baby's name is the one field that has to stay empty until after the party.

The name is the whole secret. Keep it out of the invitation and the reveal survives the link, the QR code and your aunt's habit of forwarding everything.

Why the baby's name doesn't belong on a digital invitation

The moment 'Emma' or 'Marc' goes into the cover, the invitation stops being a reveal and becomes an announcement. Digital invitations travel as a link or a QR code, and one early screenshot ends the secret before the cake is cut. Even if the name is final and you are not changing your mind, leave it off this one. Write 'the baby', 'our little one' or 'boy or girl?' instead, and save the name for the birth announcement.

  • Check the cover, the label field, the phrase and the event name. If the name is in any of them, delete it.
  • Go through all six photos. Skip the scan with the name printed on it and the personalised bracelets.
  • If you use a nickname, make it a neutral one and keep it in every scene.
  • Open the test link yourself before sharing it, and check it is the version without the name.

How to create a gender reveal invitation without the name

In the label field, write 'Gender reveal'. In the phrase, 'Boy or girl?'. Guests understand the appointment without knowing anything else. For the cover, use a neutral photo: balloons, the cake, the two of you. If you are choosing among your own pictures, leave out the ultrasound where the name or the due date is readable, because the frames crop themselves and a corner can end up on the cover. A temporary nickname or the family surname, 'The Garcias', identifies the event just as well and gives nothing away.

Then there are the editing mistakes. Sending the link before checking the cover is the expensive one: once the name is on a scene, a private message does not put the secret back. Use test mode, where the cover is editable without paying, and go field by field. If something slips through later, edit it and republish: the link stays the same. Do not mix up the test version with the published invitation before you share anything.

The name can wait for the birth announcement. The invitation only has to ask one question: boy or girl?

Where else the name slips into digital invitations

Two more places catch people out. The RSVP form: a question asking for the baby's name or the sex hands the answer to whoever fills it in, so ask for attendance only. The photos: a cake with the name piped along the edge can land on the cover when the frame crops itself. And when you share the link again on WhatsApp, check you are sending the published version. Confirmations arrive inside the invitation, in one ordered list, so there is nothing to chase.

What a digital invitation costs, and how to fix a slip-up

One price: 29,99 EUR per invitation, paid once, no subscription. Editing the cover in test mode is free. Paying unlocks every scene, and you personalise texts, photos and music in Joy Studio straight from the browser. Your guests install nothing, open the link on any phone and answer from there. The site is in seven languages, Catalan included.

Before you send the link, read your own invitation once, slowly, the way a guest would: cover, label, phrase, photos, RSVP. If the name is anywhere, take it out and republish. Then send it and let the surprise do its job.
