Digital Invitation for a Christening: Where Godparents Go

A digital invitation for a christening has to name the godparents properly: full name, role, city. Here is the order, the wording and how to fix a change without resending the link

The digital invitation goes out on Tuesday. By Thursday your aunt has called twice: she wants to know if Marta is the godmother or the godmother's sister, and whether the man in the cover photo is the godfather or an uncle. Somewhere between the group chat and the font, the two people who will actually stand at the christening ended up as one line of text that nobody can read properly.

This part has nothing to do with taste. A christening invitation has to say who the godparents are, what role each one takes, where the church is and at what time. You can sort that today: pick a design from the catalogue, fill in the fields in Joy Studio and send the link out the same afternoon. No printing, no envelopes, no "sorry, I meant to write..." message the next morning.

What a godparent actually agrees to at a christening

When someone says yes to being a godparent, they say yes in front of a church and in front of your family. The invitation is where that becomes public, so it should be exact. "Godparents: Juan and Marta" is not enough: write each full name and the role each one takes, "Godfather", "Godmother", because in plenty of families one person sponsors the water and another sponsors the education.

  • Full name of each godparent with their role next to it: "Godfather", "Godmother". Not a first name and a guess.
  • Two separate lines if you have godparents of the baptism and godparents of the candle. In one sentence it looks like the child has four parents.
  • The city in brackets for godparents who travel: "Godmother, Lisbon". It explains why they arrive the night before without anyone having to ask.
  • Dress code on its own line, never buried inside the ceremony paragraph. The godparents are in every photo at the altar, including the big group one.

How to create a digital invitation for a christening

A digital invitation is a small web page for the event, not a PDF and not an image. It opens in any browser and your guests answer from their phone without installing anything. The link never changes, even when the text does: if the godfather can't carry the candle, you correct that field in Joy Studio, publish, and everyone who opens the link sees the new version. Nobody gets a "quick correction" message.

The cover can carry up to six of your own photos, framed automatically, and you can mark which one is the cover and swap any of them later without touching the rest of the scenes. Confirmations land in one ordered list inside the invitation itself, so the week before the christening you are not scrolling through WhatsApp counting yeses.

The order nobody argues with: parents, godparents, place, time. Rearrange it for looks and your aunt phones to ask who is who.

The godmother without a name

The one that gets fixed again and again on digital invitations: the godfather gets a full name and the godmother gets "and wife", or nothing at all. If both of them stand at the font, both get the same size type and their own role. Same rule when the godparents are a couple and when they aren't: a couple shares one line, two people with no link between them get a line each with their own title, so you are not inventing a relationship that doesn't exist.

A godparent changes at the last minute

Open Joy Studio, change the name in its field, hit publish. The link is the same one you already sent, so anyone who had it open sees the new text and nobody has to be chased with a correction. Build the cover with the real godparents' names in the free trial to check how long they run before you pay the 29,99 EUR. And for the grandparents who want something in the hand, the sensible mix is the link for everyone plus a few printed copies for whoever will keep them. Choose a design from the collection and write the godparents in properly: it's one sitting, and then it's sent.
