The parish tells you the church seats about a hundred. The restaurant wants a number by Friday. Your phone holds thirty messages along the lines of "we'll be there" and not one of them says whether the two-year-old needs a chair. Christening capacity is decided in this exact mess, and it gets easier if you fix the counting first: pick a Digital invitation from the catalogue, set it up today, send the link, and let the answers land in one list instead of thirty separate chats.

There are two counts, and they do not match: seats in the church and seats at the restaurant. Get one wrong and you either park your grandmother in the side aisle or pay for a table nobody ever sits at.

Christening capacity in the church: count pews, not people

Ask the parish office how many pews will be free that morning and how many adults fit on each one without elbows in ribs. Pews are not a number on a website. A long pew takes six adults comfortably, or eight pressed together with children on laps. Twelve full pews is around seventy-two people, not a hundred and fifty.

  • Ask the parish office how many pews are actually free that day, and how many people each one holds honestly.
  • Standing room counts for the ceremony but not for the photo: fifteen people in the side aisle cannot see the font and they block the way out.
  • Keep the first two or three rows for grandparents, godparents and siblings, so nobody has to claim them at the door.
  • Give a start time you actually mean. Say half past twelve and people turn up at twenty past, filling the good rows early.

The restaurant bills you for tables, not for empty chairs

Round tables are sold whole. The standard round table seats ten adults, or eight once prams and highchairs are in the room. Confirm sixty-three people and you are paying for seven tables, or for six tables with three covers squeezed in somewhere the kitchen will not thank you for.

Babies take up real space even when they do not eat a menu. Count the highchair, count the pram parked by the bar, count one more chair for whoever is holding the baby during the toast. Add it all up, then round to whole tables before you give the restaurant its number. That is the difference between sixty and seventy on the bill.

Two counts, one list: the church by pews, the restaurant by tables, the confirmations in a single place. Then you sign the menu.

Why a Digital invitation keeps a christening capacity honest

Every confirmation arrives inside the invitation itself, on one list with names and answers, rather than in forty WhatsApp messages you tick off by hand at midnight. You set the RSVP questions yourself, so people reply to what you asked instead of sending a bare "we're coming". The link is the same for everyone and travels by WhatsApp, email or a QR code printed on the few paper copies.

If a grandmother can no longer come, or a cousin turns up with two children, you edit the invitation after sending it and the link does not change. Nobody gets a second message. Move the time, the restaurant, the map or the dress code and guests simply see the updated version when they open it, whether that is today or the Sunday before.

Before you sign the menu, have both numbers clear: the church by pews, the restaurant by tables, the confirmations in one place. Start by trying your Digital invitation for free in Send The Joy and publish the link once the guest list is closed.
