Digital invitation: how to change the wedding date

A digital invitation keeps the same link when the date moves: fix the field in the editor, publish, and every guest opening it sees the new date. No reprints

The venue calls on a Tuesday afternoon: the wedding moves from Saturday 14 September to Friday 27 September. There is a box of printed invitations under the bed and ninety people holding the old date. A digital invitation does not work that way. You pick a design from the collection, open the editor in your browser, change the wedding date, and send the link the same afternoon.

Changing the date on a wedding invitation comes down to one question: where does the date actually live? On paper it lives on every card, every envelope and every spare you ordered. On a wedding digital invitation it lives in a field in the editor. You fix it, save it, and the link you already shared shows the new date.

Don't resend anything until the date is fixed on your digital invitation

The link your guests already have does not need replacing. Anyone who opens it again sees the corrected version. So the job is not writing to ninety people one by one. It is making sure that when they open it, every part says the same thing. Send one message to everyone: the new date is in the same link. One message instead of a stream of replies asking the same question.

  • Check that the date, the time and the place say the same thing in every linked scene.
  • Write the date in words and in numbers, so nobody reads the date the wrong way round.
  • If the wedding moves season, swap the cover photo from the editor.
  • Correct the map and the dress code in the same pass as the date.

How to change the date on a digital invitation without reprinting

Text in the editor goes field by field: label, names, date, phrase and place. You edit one, not the whole layout. A character counter stops the new date from pushing the line out of shape, and the preview updates as you type, without reloading the page.

All of it works after the invitation has gone out. The link stays the same, so the answers keep landing in the confirmation list inside the invitation. The RSVP questions are set in the same editor, so replies arrive in one place instead of across a WhatsApp group. Nothing is printed, nothing is posted, and nobody has to be told twice.

The date is one field. Changing it should never mean reprinting two hundred cards.

Four date mistakes to check on digital invitations

The last week is when date errors surface. Writing Saturday the 14th when the 14th falls on a Friday: put the date in words and in numbers so nobody misreads it. Changing the ceremony time and leaving the map on the old venue: time, place and map belong in the same pass. Fixing the cover and forgetting the long-table scene, which carries the date too. And if the new date moves the wedding into another season, the cover photo goes with it. You can upload up to six of your own photos and replace any of them later.

What a digital invitation does not do

It is fully digital: it prints nothing and posts nothing. If your aunt wants something to keep, the sensible answer is the link for everyone plus a handful of printed copies for the people who will actually hold on to them. Guests need a phone, a tablet or a computer with a connection; if someone is not used to that, send the link by message and offer to help them reply. And there are no automatic reminders for people who stay quiet. The confirmation list sits inside the invitation, so you can see who has not answered and write to them yourself.

If the date has moved, do not reprint anything. Open the editor, correct the field, and keep sharing the same link. It takes less time than finding the box of cards.
