It's 11:40 pm and you have just dropped the address into the group chat. By 12:15, three people are still asking whether the bar is in Malasaña or Lavapiés, and someone has forwarded a poster that could be from last year. A birthday at a cocktail bar rarely goes wrong because of the bar. It goes wrong because of the information, and that part you can sort before you leave the house: a digital invitation from the catalogue takes a few minutes to build, and you can send the link tonight.

A bar night has one thing a dinner at home doesn't: someone else's rules. Last call, closing time, minimum spend, the table they want back at midnight. If your invitation promises something the venue never agreed to, you are the one who ends up explaining it, usually at 2:45 am, in a queue, to four people at once.

The wording that makes a bar owner call you

Group chats reward exaggeration. Invitations don't. 'Until we drop' is a promise you cannot make on behalf of a bar that closes at 2:30, and 'free entry until 3:00' builds an expectation nobody in the room can honour. Keep the invitation to the facts of the night: where you will be, from what time, and what you have booked.

  • Cut any line that promises a closing time. You don't run last call, the bar does.
  • Write the arrival time, not the end of the night: '10:30 pm at the bar' says more than 'all night long'.
  • Swap 'minimum spend required' for 'back room reserved, one drink each'. Same information, less small print.
  • Name the bar in full and add the neighbourhood, with the map in the same scene so nobody has to guess.

A group chat is not a digital invitation for a cocktail bar birthday

A message with an address sent at 11:40 pm gets buried under stickers and voice notes. By the time anyone scrolls back, the details are spread across three chats and a screenshot of a bar sign that says neither the time nor whose birthday it is. A digital invitation is a page of its own: it opens with a link, works in any browser, and nobody installs anything to read it.

Confirmations land in a list inside the invitation instead of being counted by hand in the chat. If you need to know how many of you are coming to the reserved area, you set that question in the RSVP form. The details stay editable too: move the party to another bar, change the time from 10:00 to 11:00 pm, or drop the dress code, and the same link shows the updated version. No 'ignore the last message, new plan' at midnight. The editor also counts characters as you type, so a long bar name doesn't get cut off after you have already sent the link to 25 people.

The invitation should promise only what you control: the time you arrive, the table you booked and the people you invited. Everything after that belongs to the bar.

What decides whether people actually turn up

The date, the bar and the name are the easy part. Clarity is what moves the numbers: a cover with the birthday person's name on it instead of a generic neon background, up to six of your own photos with one marked as the cover, and a short line about what you have booked. If half your guests read English and the other half don't, the site runs in seven languages and you can set the invitation content per language. Preview the cover for free, unlock every scene for €29.99 with one payment and no subscription, and publish with a button. Confirmations arrive in the list inside the invitation, where you can actually see them.
