A friend sends you the template she used for her sister's shower. You open it and the first line reads "Mum and Dad". The date is booked, the spare room is full of paint samples and you still haven't worked out how the two of you will appear on the invitation. A digital invitation for a baby shower with two mums or two dads sorts that out in an afternoon: choose a design from the catalogue, edit the cover with your real names, send the link the same day.

No printing, no envelopes, no rushing a print shop. Guests open a link on their phone and reply inside the invitation. What follows is only about the decisions you make before you touch the design: the wording, the palette, the dress code and the replies.

Two mums, two dads: fix the wording first

Start with the label on the cover. Say it out loud before you type it. "Mum Ana and Mum Lucía" works if the baby will call you both Mum. "Ana and Lucía, two mums" states it once and then leaves you alone. Some couples drop the label and use only their names, which is fine as long as nothing further down assumes a dad. Templates often ship with "Mum and Dad" buried in the small print. Read every line and replace it.

  • Close the label before you edit anything: "Mum Ana and Mum Lucía" or "Ana and Lucía, two mums" — one version, used the same way on every scene.
  • If the baby will carry a surname only one of you has, write it on the cover: "On the way: Mateo, son of Ana and Lucía."
  • Put the date and time together with a range: "Saturday 14 June, 12:00–16:00". That one line saves a dozen messages asking when to arrive.
  • Replace the default "mum and dad" with your names, or with "their families", everywhere it appears.

The palette doesn't have to be pink or blue

Choose two colours that already exist in your home rather than two colours that are supposed to announce a gender. Terracotta and sage if the party is in the garden and the food sits on one long table. Midnight blue and gold if it starts at eight and the lights stay low. Put the date in the accent colour and the address in grey: the eye finds the day first and the place second.

If you want a rainbow nod, spend it on one detail — the underline under the date, a small arc on the cover photo — and leave the rest flat. One arc is a detail about the party. Rainbow everything becomes a statement, and you may not want the invitation doing that talking.

Paper introduces you once. A link keeps the introduction current until the last guest replies.

What a digital invitation does that paper can't

The cover takes up to six of your own photos and frames them for you; you can swap the cover photo later without touching the link. Replies land inside the invitation, in one ordered list, with the questions you set in the form. If the shower moves from the flat to your parents' garden, you edit the address and every guest sees it. Nobody installs an app: they open the link in a browser on a phone, a tablet or a laptop and answer there.

When paper still matters

This is digital: nothing gets printed or posted. If your grandmother will pin the invitation to the fridge, the sensible mix is the link for everyone plus five printed copies for the people who keep things. Five, not fifty. And if the time changes, don't reprint — send those five a message and point them at the link.

Pick a design, try it free by editing the cover, and buy when the wording sounds like the two of you. One payment of 29.99 EUR unlocks every scene, the music and the RSVP list, with no subscription. Then publish the link and let the replies come in while you get on with the nursery.
