Christening invitations at home: logistics before tears

It's 11pm and you're counting chairs on the back of an envelope. The cake is ordered, the godparents said yes, and the christening is in three weeks. Somewhere between picking christening invitations at home and booking the church, nobody worked out who sits where, what time people eat, or how you'll find out who's actually coming.

Christening invitations at home usually fall apart on the boring parts, not the big ones. Sort the time, the seating and the confirmations first, and the day has room to be what it is: a baby, a family, and a long lunch that runs past four.

Christening invitations at home: the time comes before the menu

If the ceremony starts at noon, the aperitif lands in the middle of the baby's nap — and yours. Ask the priest how long the service runs before you fix anything else. Forty minutes in church, the drive back, getting everyone out of the car: a 2pm lunch becomes 2:40. Leave 30 minutes between walking through the door and sitting down to eat. Grandparents, aunts and photographs don't move faster because the food is ready.

  • The exact time, the full address, the buzzer that works, and the floor if there's a lift to find.
  • How many adults and how many children per family, with a clear deadline to reply.
  • Where to park: the street, not the neighbourhood.
  • What's eaten and when — snacks, lunch and cake can't all land at three.

Your living room has a capacity too

Count real chairs, not good intentions. A 25 m² living room with 30 guests turns into a corridor, and someone ends up eating standing up with a plate in one hand. Give the children a low table with paper on it in a corner. It solves more than trying to get 20 people seated at the same time.

If the house runs short, 15 people for lunch and an open afternoon at 6 works better than 40 with nowhere to sit. Keep confirmations out of the group chat. In a thread with 25 people, nobody can tell who's coming or how many children to count. Ask for a reply by a clear date — the Tuesday before, for example — with adults and children listed per family. With the form inside the invitation, the answers arrive as one ordered list instead of disappearing between stickers and voice notes.

Paper only for the people who will keep it

A digital invitation is a web page of its own, not a PDF and not a picture. It opens in the browser on a phone, and your guests install nothing. Nothing gets printed or posted either — the invitation is digital from the cover to the RSVP. If an aunt wants something for a drawer, print two or three copies and send the link to everyone else. One link carries the time, the address and the reply form.

What makes a christening at home work is a seating plan and a reply date, not a bigger tablecloth.

Change the time without making 40 phone calls

The cake arriving at 6:30 instead of 5 is normal. Ringing 40 people to tell them is not. You can edit after sending and the link stays the same: guests open it and see the current version. Change the hour, the map, the dress code or a line of text from the browser, with nothing to reprint or resend. Try the cover for free first; buying the invitation is €29.99 as a one-off payment and unlocks every scene. Pick a design, publish it, and send one link.
