Three weeks before the baby shower, the group chat has forty messages and no answer. Two guests bought the same grey blanket. Someone else went for a sleepsuit in size 6 months, which will fit next winter. Nobody is being careless. There was simply nothing to coordinate around.

A color code on your baby shower invitation solves it in one line. Each gift category gets a color, the colors live inside the link, and your guests stop guessing. No app to install, no phone calls, no second message.

The color code for baby shower gifts comes first

Pick three or four colors and no more, and tie each one to a closed group of things: mustard for the bath, sage green for 0–3 month clothing, blue-grey for diapers. Then write the palette in the first scene of the invitation, right under the date and time. If you leave it near the bottom, half your guests will never scroll that far. And choose names someone can find on a shelf. 'Mustard', 'sage green', 'blue-grey' work. 'Pastel tones' helps nobody standing in an aisle holding a basket.

  • Mustard: bathtub, hooded towels, baby wash and creams.
  • Sage green: 0–3 month clothing, sleepsuits and onesies.
  • Blue-grey: diapers in sizes 1 and 2.
  • Terracotta: board books, muslins and cloth toys.

Baby shower invitations: hand out categories, not store names

Divide the gifts by when you will use them: bath, sleep, walks, feeding, and the first time you leave the house. 'I'm the walk color' is easier to remember than a list of eight products. Skip brand names and model numbers. Nobody is going to match a specific stroller.

If the crib, the stroller and the high chair are already sorted, say so in one sentence inside the invitation: 'The big pieces are covered, the colors are for the small things.' That single line stops four people turning up with the same muslin.

When the palette is clear, the invitation stops being decoration and becomes the list everyone understands.

If there is an older sibling, there is a fifth color

Reserve one color for what the older child needs: a spare set of clothes, a new sleep bag, a book that isn't a hand-me-down. Then split the diapers by size and give each size its own color. Blue for size 1 and terracotta for size 2 means you don't end up with two hundred newborn diapers and nothing for month four. Add one category for the big brother or sister in that fifth color: a t-shirt, a story, something that belongs only to them on the day.

The empty slot is also a signal

Add an open question to the RSVP form — 'Which color are you bringing?' — and you'll see which category is filling up slowly while there's still time. Three days out, if sage green is still empty, one message in the group chat is enough: the palette is already in the link. In Joy Studio the palette sits in the phrase field and the scene's accent color, so moving a color or swapping in a photo of the crib is a two-minute edit, and the link stays the same. Keep a screenshot of the replies for the day you set the room up. €29.99, one payment, and your guests just open a link. Write your colors, publish, and everyone knows what to bring.
