Autumn Christening Invitation: Time and Place Both Matter

The christening doesn't end at the font: someone has to know where to collect the children and when lunch starts. Here's how to get that onto an autumn invitation.

Saturday, 11:15. The side door of the church, a folded umbrella, and four children waiting for someone to confirm whether the ceremony has finished. The invitation said 11:00 and then "lunch afterwards", so three parents are calling each other from the car park. Nothing is wrong with the christening. Something is missing from the autumn christening invitation.

An autumn christening invitation has one job beyond looking good: telling people where they need to be, and when. Here is how to put that on the page, in the order guests actually need it.

An autumn christening invitation starts on the pavement

The font is where the ceremony happens, not where the day stops being organised. Write the ceremony time first, then the pickup time directly underneath, with the name of the adult taking the children. Three labelled moments — ceremony, pickup, lunch — stop anyone from mixing up the church time with the restaurant time. Add a phone number for that day, separate from the general contact, for last-minute questions about the children.

  • Ceremony time, then pickup time, with the name of whoever collects the children.
  • Exact address of the church and of the meal, each with a map link and a parking note.
  • Rain plan spelled out: the covered address and the time everyone moves there.
  • One confirmation question: "Are you coming with children?" or "Are you staying for lunch?"

Autumn shows up in the time of day, not the clip art

In October the light goes early. If the ceremony is at 12:00, the photographs outside need their own time on the invitation, not "afterwards". Set that slot by working backwards from sunset, and tell people whether they are standing in a garden or on a step.

Write the rain plan down as well. If drinks move to the porch or a covered room, the invitation shows that address and the time of the move. For the design, terracotta, mustard, olive and burgundy do more work than a decorative maple leaf, especially once the text stops being readable. And say what to wear: "warm coat and comfortable shoes" tells an autumn guest far more than "smart".

The ceremony is the point. The invitation's job is the pavement outside it.

The details that save you forty messages

A digital christening invitation from Send The Joy is a web page, not a PDF. You share a link, a QR code or a message, and guests open it in any browser and answer from their phone — there is no app to install. The address, the map link, the dress code, the music, up to six of your own photos and the RSVP questions are all yours to fill in, and the page can be set up in English or any of the seven languages the site runs in. Confirmations arrive in a list inside the invitation, so you are not chasing replies by WhatsApp. If the restaurant confirms the children's menu late, or rain moves the drinks inside, edit the page and the same link shows the updated version: nothing to reprint, nothing to resend. Build the cover for free and pay only when you publish — 29.99 EUR once, no subscription.
