Christening invitations with calm, not a template

A christening reads better with air, a name and a clear time than with ornaments everywhere. Let the child’s name be the title.

A christening is often filled with doves, crosses and a gothic letter that is hard to read on a phone. The fact that matters is the name. If the name is the title, large and clear, the invitation already has a center. Ornaments can sit in a margin, or not sit at all. Nobody goes to a christening for the dove.

Say the place the way you would on the phone: the church or the venue, the neighborhood if it helps, and the time of the ceremony separate from the time of the meal. Mixing them is why half the family arrives after you have already left. Two lines, two times. Not a paragraph.

The name is the title

The text can be short and still be respectful. “We expect you at Clara’s christening, Sunday at twelve at Saint Mary’s, and for lunch afterwards at home” says everything. You do not need nineteen-eighties print language for the care to show. Care is nothing missing and nothing spare.

  • The name, large, as the title
  • Ceremony time and meal time, separate
  • The place said as on the phone
  • Air, not a dove in every corner

Place and time, without a detour

If there are godparents and you want to name them, name them. If not, do not invent them to fill space. A christening invitation is not a program. It is a note to the people you want on that morning. The less filler in the text, the more it feels like a house.

If you use an image, it can be the light in the church, white flowers, the font, or no photo and only the name. A stock picture of a baby’s hands on a bible looks like all the others. The calm of stone and a window says more, and in a wide frame it is not cropped.

Calm is a style too. The name and the time do more than the ornament.

Send it with enough days for anyone coming from away to move, and repeat the time in the message. The link confirms. The sentence in the message is the one people keep.
